Val Emmich got his start in New Brunswick -
What’s it all about, Val?
Val Emmich’s excellent new album, “Aide Memoire,” is a nuanced rock record — at times whisper delicate and at times brusquely pointed — that also asks some pretty big questions.
Take the ethereal track “Wooly Mammoth.”
“I don’t know where that song came from,” said Emmich, a native of Manalapan. “It’s about the world we’re leaving to our kids. I had an almost apocalyptic vision of there’s so many people, and when we’re gone, what’s left? We’re just bones, just like the wooly mammoths.”
Emmich’s introspection was perhaps prompted by the arrival of a new baby nine months ago for he and his wife, who live in Jersey City.
